Heb 13:1-3 Keep on loving each other as brothers. 2 Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some people have entertained angels without knowing it. 3 Remember those in prison as if you were their fellow prisoners, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering.
Who stands in need of prayer? All people do! Jesus announced the "good news" to the poor, those who were in prisons, recovery of sight for the blind and freedom for those who were bound. Jesus stood with the poor people of his day. He has called upon us to change the world so that everybody has the opportunity to become all that he or she can be. Jesus shows us that the "us and them" mentality has no place in God's world. We need each other including those locked behind concrete walls and doors of iron.
The H.I.M. Ministry regards those in Jails and Prisons as human beings and "all" were created in God's image. All people including those who are bound carry within their veins a common blood. We are meant to love one another as God loves us. We are to care for one another as God cares for us. This means we are to take actions in life that will insure that all people are treated with dignity through right relationships. Even though prison walls are built to put away or hide the people society would like to forget God reminds us that "No one is disposable."
God sees past their prison clothes, their inmate number and the mask they may sometimes wear just to get by. God sees their heart and God knows their thoughts. God sees that prisoners tears, even when they try to hide them. God hears their cries even when they try to stifle them. When they are locked behind walls, he sees right through to their heart. When no one will listen to their point of view, he waits, longing to hear their voice. God does hear as those cold walls echo with the cries of those who are bound.
God, are you here with me? God sitting in this pressure cooker, I feel so alone. It's hard to find you here! When most people think of the work of God's hand, they think of majestic mountains and beautiful sunsets or the soft newness of a baby's hand reaching for sunbeams. Well, there's nothing majestic, beautiful, or soft in this place. Certainly this cell was not the works of your hand. Where are you, God? Are you here with me? Help me find you in here. Help me find you...Amen
Hebrews3:3 Remember those in prison as if you were their fellow prisoners, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering.
For the past 8-years The H.I.M. Jail and Prison Ministry Team members have entered the Jails and the Prisons in our surrounding areas to visit those who are bound. We carry the message of God and His precious promises through: Weekly Bible Studies, Alcoholics for Christ Meetings, A.A. Meetings and One-on-One Visitation with inmates. We also, have a Letter Writing Ministry that sends out cards and letters with words of encouragement and God's precious promises to an inmate. If this Ministry Team can be of any assistance to you or a loved one that is incarcerated please let us know.
The noise of the prisons may seem to drown out the voice of God. The hardness of the bars and the walls and faces around the inmate may seem to dispel any notion of the love of God. But, through this Ministry we share with them the love and the Word of God; He will hold that inmate in the palm of His hand, even when they may feel they are living in Hell. Great is your love, O God, our sustainer. Amen
